I have broken wrists before – but this was a bad one (at least that’s what the doctor said) and I am disinclined to disagree. Despite being 12 days into the break, the pain is sometimes intolerable. Night-time is the worst when the break seems to take on a pulsating, throbbing life of its own. All I can do is sit-up and wait for dawn to come. It is a miserable few hours. To make matters worse, I have had an allergic reaction to the painkillers and have broken out in a burning rash. I am not sure what’s worse.
It amazes me how little sleep I am getting buy with – maybe a couple of groggy, snatched hours at night. Things are very uncomfortable to say the least. Anyway, at the risk of turning into a moaner, I am not going to say anymore. Just to say I will have the utmost respect and sympathy for anyone who finds themselves in the same position. Broken bones and no cycling are unhappy bedfellows.
Here is my listening list of music to help me through the dark days…
Kraftwerk – Tour de France (Remastered) – Complete masters of their craft. 80’s electronica that is often mimicked but never beaten.
Wild Beasts – Two Dancers – Debut album from a band that sound totally different to anything out there. Surprisingly addictive.
Carl Craig – Clear and Present (The C2 Sessions) – The Detroit master class.
Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid - One of my favourite bands of the moment who I keep coming back to and it still sounds as fresh as first listen.
Editors – In This Light and On This Evening – Some brilliant tracks on this retro-styled release with nods to Joy Division / Killing Joke / Cabaret Voltaire

Hang in there chief, you’ll soon be back enjoying the thrills of soft front suspension, but not in a Jordan kinda way !
good music list, I am just getting into Elbow and have to say I am more impressed with every listen.
and Carl Craig…. masterclass indeed.
I recently found my 12″ Latour – Blue EP and it’s also a good pick-me-up.
Just downloaded latour!
